What the result means
- Match means the file is byte-for-byte the document the firm issued, with its number, revision and status. Any change, even re-saving or re-printing to PDF, gives a different fingerprint.
- No match does not prove a forgery. Copies that were edited, scanned, compressed or re-saved will not match. Ask for the original by email.
- Draft means a lettered revision (RA, RB …) sent for review. Sealed issues are numbered: R0, R1 …
- Superseded or withdrawn means a newer revision replaces this one, or the document should no longer be relied on.
- Your file never leaves your computer. The page sends only a scrambled form of its fingerprint, and the firm's register returns details only when that matches a document it issued. The register itself is not public.
